I personally believe birthdays are not allowed because it's a cult and cults need members to avoid mixing with "worldly" people. This of course does not apply to anniversaries.

by hyperpen inthe scripture quotes aside, i was always told that we don't celebrate birthdays because that is a celebration of the self, which has no place in jehovah's organization.
then why celebrate anniversaries?
anniversary celebrations are about the joining of two selves, isn't that twice as selfish?.

Won't get fooled again .....

yet life outside the organisation seems one big advertistiment telling me how useless i am.

The Rebel ( A) summed my O.P up perfectly. I would also like to add this is why I like " Billy-the ex Bethelites" avetor. Trust me Billy looks nothing like that, but he is relaxed enough about himself to not need project an image of masculinity/ sexuality that advertisers deem necessary.
I also think it wonderful if people can except themselfs for who they are in appearance and not how society/ advertisers says they should be projected. Both masculine and feminine beauty fades, but the fruit with-in the shell is who we are .

Having left the Witnesses I hope I won't get " fooled again". Yet life outside the organisation seems one big advertistiment telling me how useless i am. These advertisements tell me I am physically ugly, which can be corrected if I buy the advertisers product. Then having corrected my physical imperfections I discover, according to advertising my family home is unhygienic,and without a certain vacuum cleaner, named the " Swivel Sweep" I am basically a pig.
Personally I say life outside the Watchtowr is about creating emotional security and happiness....let's not get fooled again. Therefore let's leave the Watchtoer and "not get fooled again" I say it's who we are and not what we are not, which makes us the people we are and love". Translation l---k advertising.

" I hate Jehovers Witnesses...
by The Rebel inyesterday a friend invited me to a barbecue .
late in the evening for some reason a guy with tattoos all over his arms, who i didn't know shouted out " i hate jehovers witnesses".
anyway i noted a sudden quietness in the group, but basically the entire comment passed me by.

The Rebel:- actually not, but my wife was cleaning the upstairs window, and had reversed them to do the outside. " Help" her panicked scream alerted me from downstairs, I sprang up and the window was about to topple out, I shouted to my new friend to come and help, and he fixed the window, so without a strong wind it was secure, until the professional help arrived.
That is what happened and if I meet the " guy" in town I now consider us good friends. Yet I still don't know his name.

I know longer want to cherry pick holes in the organisation.
by The Rebel ininstead i would rather spend my days picking fresh cherries from a tree, in fact i am having so much fun i have got the whole family involved, and the freezer is full of red berries, black currents, and today is more strawberry picking.
i have also gone to a farm and made my own yummy honey.. anyway have you been berry picking?
do you have any ideas how i can really enjoy my fresh goodies?

Kate your point of view is always valued to me. Why? Because you have in your post history revealed everything's about yourself, and your qualifications, and you are always sincere. If such self expression at times is wrong, then I would be happy to be a fool.
Anyway my point is we come on the board and we collect the material together, spending painstaking hours, even months reaching our conclusion, that doesn't make our point of view correct, but with the helpful co-operation of positive comments we can challenge our thinking, and humbly correct our viewpoint if wrong. As for your O.P " I conclude evolution is guided" the comments were beyond me, so I must answer. Who knows? Certainly not me? But I think the O.P will educate me with the answers. Thanks for that.

I would just like to add, on one of my walks along the canal to pick berries I met an ex-witnesss, and if you think i am sad berry picking, he had a pair of binoculars around his neck and had taken up bird watching. And why not? I am glad he likes poking around the countryside with his bird watcher friends watching birds, in a dirty green floppy hat, a mackintosh, and waterproof pants. I hope today he discovers a rare bird and gets over-existed. ( Think about it, it's better than knocking on doors, now that's weird :-)
